Bounce Circuit Show #1

Long time, no live... Just come back from Kichijouji's Crescendo, where I checked out BOUNCE CIRCUIT SHOW #1. On the menu HELLHOUND / Wheel of doom / AFTER ZERO / THE ROUTE SIXX CB / Bleed Out.

Needless to say I was there for the infernal dog, fresh from its European assault (Germany and France), but can't hide I was looking forward also to enjoy again AFTER ZERO. And I did it!
Not many people in the house and reactions a bit below the expectations, but we managed to rock the place anyway.

Telling the truth, I got almost completely absorbed by my new "artillery" and the associated shooting drills (which proved to be far thougher than I imagined). Regrettably the results were modest: of the mountains of shells I shot, only a small part hit the target... (that pigstall is very dark). I had it comming... "It's a long way to the top if you wanna get good pics!"
But I'm happy anyway: under the stage
I met my idol, Mr. So-Heavy (alias Satoshi Yamaguchi)... a hell of a photographer! Check out the pics he is able to take with his tools!

Anyway, nice performance of BLEED OUT, that missed to put a rope on the Cpt.'s neck, but demonstrated to be very enjoyable live (guitar and singing, in particular).

Stay tuned!

M.D.M.

BURRIED IN VERONA-Circle the Dead (2008) [MDM/Metalcore]

Italian named Sidney based band, playing a very enjoyable MDM/metalcore (it brings the Cpt. back to the first As I lay Down era). Twin guitar precision-guided tattack provide the back-bone for the majority of the tracks, while ferocious vocals and unrelenting double-kick drums hammer down the rest. All uniformely spinkled with a eye-piercing melody. Lyrics and cover art (nice chick!) do not really inspire, with most tracks following self-pity and angsty themes, but , shit... happens! The tunes are fine and kicking!

BEYOND THE EMBRACE-Insect Song (2004) [MDM]

It ain't new, but it stands the test of time. German band, playing a very fine MDM.This is their second album: more riffy, with raspy vocals, and a bit less melodic than the previous (if it is your first listen, you could even doubt they play MDM at all). There's a lot on the album that let you think "This sounds like Metallica's St. Anger, if that was good!", both as for vocals and guitar work. Result of the 3rd guitarist employed? The J.Hetfield voice of the singer...? Who cares! Great melodies, growling, fast drums, good leads, and more good stuff (past influences like Maiden show up in "Redemer" and other tracks). A must-listen.

Ready for boarding!

Getting ready for boarding!
Monday night will go testing the new artillery at a Meguro Live Station, small music hole (not hall) an half an hour sail from the Port!
On the band list, almost never heard APHASIA / ATOMIC TORNADO / LIGHT BRINGER / ZERO and LONGINUS. Long time no gig... form them and the wood-legged Cpt.
Stay tuned!

CANCELED: coastal patrolling and boarding activity will prevent the Cpt. from attending (shit got a reserved ticket too)!

BOOTY

DEADLOCK-Manifesto (2008)

This is a freaky fine piece of music (Cpt. loves disco/techno-like metal... Ex. Blood Stain Child)! It's a while I have it in the chest, but yesterday spotting it at the pirate market (finally out here too), I rediscovered it again!
Dudes from Germany providing you here
a pounding house beat mixed with MDM grooves and lyrical (cynical?) references from the beginning to the end. Atmospheric keyboard, mechanical/animal drumming, enormous variation between insolence, melody, beauty, sharp solos (rap & sax inserts in it!). The huge gap between the pitch-black shrieking by Johannes Prem and the soft as velvet, poppy vocals of singering Sabine Wenger is really cool. And the vocals by Wenger are real kick. Christian Älvestam (ex-Scar Symmetry) drops by to do some vocals in ‘Dying Breed’ which makes the vocal variation on ‘Manifesto’ even bigger. Enjoy it!

This is 12th!

This is 12th!
12th Port Royal Booty Sampler... this one also AAC 128 kbs, tagged and packed with a selection of the most recent treasures (2008 and a few 2007). Glimpse the content from the cover shake!

One, two, three...

Three more pieces for your chest of treasures. They were relatively new to me, but already after the first spin, I decided I wanted them with in my cargo of ingots. I ordered them by increasing thoughness.

EDEN'S CURSE-Second Comming (2008) [Heavy M.]

I'm always skeptical about so-labelled melodic metal bands, but this is really good! Second full length album for these Britons, mixing Iron Maiden, Queensryche, Victory, Loudness-like sounds and shreds. Melodic, but no way AOR, it'S definitely a metallic product: lightweight where needed, but with intense power, awesome guitar riffs and tremendous production, multi layer backing vocals.

ADORNED BROOD-Noor (2008) [Folk M.]

This is a freaky nice example of how folk-metal should be to catch the Cpt. These dudes from Germany play a mixture of MDM/Thrash/Symphonic M. with various & cool rhytm changes and an absolutely original vocalist, switching in no time from harsh old-thrasshy screaming to chorussing and melodic singing. Well... OK, you get some accordion, flutes and a a few passages in German that may slow down your pathos. But just when you start getting pissed, you get your ass kicked up again for good. Anyway great tunes and melodies.

BESATT-Triumph of Anthecrist (2007) [Black M.]

Now, usually Black Metal (read it as New Wave of Black Metal) it's something that make the Cpt. really shit... both tunes & lyrics. But for some mistake of the destiny I happened to stumble upon this album, and I have to say I got addicted to it. Originary from Poland, just like Vader (which on the short I can also enjoy) they usually play though Black M. Yet this disc lacks all my most irritating elements. Instead displaying an old Venom-like sound & singing imprinting, with a drumming debording more on death/thrash and an "understandable" melody, it really grabs me. Of course I have to ignore the lyrics...! But, shits... happens!

THIS IS 11TH!

This is 11th!
Hell yeah! Port Royal Booty Sampler is among us again!

Long missing... get a sample of the stormy waves that hit the port docks lately! You won't be deluded, 'cause we're just like John West... "we endures the worst to bring you the best!"
No concessions to quality: almost all 2008 stuff, AAC 128 kbs, tagged and covered, but in one big chunck... to shove up your ass... ooops, your ears... or wherever you may like!
Let me know if the indexing works (the new software said it should, but on my iTunes it didn't).
Try to glimpse the content from the cover shake!

Cheers folks!

PS: Oh, by the way... AFTER ZERO's "Push them otherside" (Jap. dudes) has no cover, since it's a demo. But it's awesome!

4 NEW BRICKS

4 new golden bricks I've been enjoyng these days...
Have fun!

DISCARD-Carrion (2008) [Death/Thrash M. from Finland]
ONE MAN ARMY-Grim Tales (2008) [Death/Thrash M. from Sweden]
WOLF-Edge of the World (1984) [NWOBHM from UK. Oldies!]

New artillery...

New artillery on board!
Cpt.'s just exchanged some chests of treasures for a new big gun!
Watch out your asses!

November 02, 2008

Cool stuff!

DREADNAUT...
New kids on the blocks!
Just kidding (it may sound as an insult too)!

A taste of what's to come (2008) new album from this band from... Winnipeg (Can), introduced by buddy Pipes to the Port a couple of days ago. I'm already addicted.
Quite various & catchy tunes in it: modern sound mixed to traditional MDM and a bit of core.
Singing also is along the lines... clear, rusty, screamy. No chance of getting bored. Maybe it misses speed ups and here and there it tends to fall into lighter sides of the music, but the constant pounding in the back make up for it quite well. Check them out and buy their shit! Young bands need support!

Boys coming to town...

Some scheduling...
Budgeting and expenditure programs for a new professional camera are on the agenda of the Cpt.
But also some make-up gigs (thought about heading again to L.A., but coastal patrolling require my presence here for the next months).
So on the 29th we'll have some HELLHOUND and WHEEL OF DOOM again for the Bounce Circuit Show #1 LOUD&METAL SIDE at Crescendo Live House (the former, on return from Europe) and on the 30th ANTHEM at Club Citta (Kawasaki) for one date of their Black Empire Tour. Looking forward for the last one. Kawasaki is an all-standing, favorite of mine... and on the mic, well one hell of a singer.
