ROCKSTAR MAYHEMFEST!

As you all know, Big Pipes was here about two weeks ago and the main show we went to was the Rockstar Mayhemfest out in San Bernadino, CA.! After the Disturbed tour bus stopped in Pasadena to say "Hi", we followed them out to the gig. It was a beautiful day and having VIP access was going to make the event all the more amazing. Here is the bands:

Pipes and I were Rockstars, got invited onto the stage to check out the rigs before the gigs. Dragonforce was great, loved seeing the Guitar Heroes up front and close. BUT DISTURBED, blew us away. It also helped getting to meet Dan Donegan(from Chicago) and getting to talk with him for a few minutes. What a damn day, it was burning hot, but Pipes and I were fine in the VIP area, quite nice there! Anyway, everyone please check out the pics, setlists, guitars, and basic debauchery!

Testament & Judas Priest

Last night I took in Testament and Priest, when I heard Paul Bostaph was on drums I had to go! Testament opened and played a 45 minute set and their energy level was astoundingly high as this was the last stop for them touring here with Priest. Today they left in the wee hours onwards to Minneapolis, USA to hook up on another leg of touring, eventually joining the Metal Fest tour dates and will be playing into late August when Testament's touring ends. If you should be so fortunate to get to see them you won't be disappointed!

As for Judas Priest what else can I comment on that you might have not already heard? Priest still delivers an outstanding show and played many classics along with some songs from his new concept cd. His vocals are still spot on Amazing! They had a great stage show, lights, lasers, smoke and very colorful! I left halfway through Priest's show to catch up with Testament by their tour bus to get some autographs.



Paul Bostaph of Testament pitched 2 drumsticks into the crowd at the end of the show, the second drumstick literally bounced off of someones head and twirled towards me. The guy in front of me loosely caught it in his chest, but however in football rules that is still ruled fair game so I snatched it away immediately! Hehe.

LONGINUS-Red (2004): It's a DEMo-like album. You can get it only at gigs... gues privately re-burned for the ocasion each time. A bit rough as production, but nice tunes on it! Gives you an idea of what these guys can do (in japanese).

KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND-Eternity (2007): maybe a bit too cheasy and much better when playing live these Japanese guys, but the axeman is quite talented! Very fast! The new singer is better than this one. Check it out!

AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE-Total Brutal (2008): Port Royal bembers have been enjoying this one very much lately! J13's friend on the drum! It's from California...! It'll be back!

LONGINUS night: Self Burning Vol. 1

Men! I always get so much fun at LONGINUS gigs!
The melodic speed they play's really kick my ass sky high! And yesterday I got my fill.

It was a LONGINUS night, i.e. THEY were "the men" as well as the night promoters, while as opener we got to enjoy LIGHBRINGER and KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND, again two young band of talented musician.
No regret what so ever. Lightbringer doesn't properly suits Captain and Port Royal's members tastes, I guess: despite the melodic/speed m. inserts they stay on a bit too visual pop-rock side. I don't know if it was the battery of Jack Daniels & coke I had or what, but I managed to enjoy them too. The singer (sweet & nice chick) has voice and presence on stage, even if her voice sounds a little bit unoriginal. When they covered Longinus's Heresy, with the guitarrist on the vocals and a different axeman, they quite hit on the right spot, getting a more groovy sound!

Knights of Round may need some image change and some track proofreading, but live they are quite up to the task. Men, the axeman is a shredder! I do like him! Beside he is so much Joe Stump-like! They got me: banging since first track. Well, yep... there were a little bit too many plastic sword in the sky to be serious METAL... but they're on their first album. They can only get better. They nicely performed a Helloween cover too (their sound is quite close to them). They got a new singer (guess better that the previous... quite Kiske-like) and a new bassist. Nice listening! May start stalking them too.

Longinus does not need introductions. They shoved up our ass almost all their tunes, with the usual energy and skill. Three enchores and a catchy cover (guess it was Manowar's Metal Daze) with drum-man Midi-san on vocal, guitarrist Maki-san on drum, Ken-san on guitar and bass G-san on guitar. Cool!

Stay tuned! Forthcomming are Tokyo's metal defenders HELLHOUND (8/2) [singer and guitarrist was at the gig with the Cpt.); BLOOD STAIN CHILD (8/10) and ... ANTHRAX (15/8).

As a hard-core Maiden supporter, PORT ROYAL couldn't miss it for anything! Won't waste time for chit-chat.
